Honest comparison

TrafficBud vs Semrush

Semrush is a large, capable, expensive suite built for marketing teams. TrafficBud is a small tool that turns your site's own data into a monthly list of things to fix. If you run one website and you are paying for Semrush mostly to use the site audit, this page is about whether you should stop.

What Semrush is

Semrush is genuinely one of the best products in the category. It carries an enormous keyword database, a full backlink index, position tracking across locations and devices, competitor traffic estimates, advertising research, content tooling and social scheduling. The site audit is one module inside a large suite.

Where Semrush is better, and it is not close

Backlinks. We have no backlink index at all.

TrafficBud cannot tell you who links to you, who links to a competitor, or whether a link you earned is still live. Semrush maintains one of the largest link indexes in the industry. If backlink analysis is why you opened this page, we are the wrong tool and you should stay where you are.

Rank tracking for keywords you do not already rank for.

Our position data comes from your own Google Search Console, which means it only covers queries you already appear for. Semrush checks the actual search results, so it can track a keyword you have never ranked for and show you where you sit against named competitors. That is a real capability we do not have and are not pretending to.

Breadth. Semrush does a dozen jobs; we do one.

Paid search research, display advertising, competitor traffic estimates, social scheduling, content marketplaces — all outside what we do. If you use more than two or three Semrush modules, replacing it with us would be a downgrade dressed up as a saving.

Where TrafficBud is the better buy

It tells you what to do, not what is happening.

Semrush hands you a dashboard and leaves the prioritising to you. TrafficBud produces one ranked list of the next things to fix, as a PDF for a webmaster or a plain-text task file for an AI agent, and emails it to you every month whether or not you log in.

It is priced for one website, not for a team.

Semrush is priced as a suite for marketing departments. Our Starter plan is built around a small number of sites you actually own.

It runs inside Claude and Cursor.

TrafficBud ships an MCP server, so your AI assistant can run the audits and read your Search Console history without you opening a dashboard. See /mcp-server.

It checks whether AI assistants recommend you.

Search rankings are no longer the whole story. We check whether answer engines cite your site for real buying questions, and show who they cite instead. Free, no signup, at /ai-visibility.

The short version. If you need backlink data or true rank tracking, buy Semrush; nothing here replaces it. If you own one or two sites, never open eight of the twelve modules, and mostly want to be told what to fix next, TrafficBud does that part for a fraction of the money.

What TrafficBud costs

Our prices, in full. We deliberately do not quote Semrush's pricing here — it changes, and a comparison page carrying a stale number is worse than one carrying none. Check theirs on their own site.

PlanPricePage auditsSitesCrawl depth
Free Free 3/mo 1 10 pages

Annual billing is ten times the monthly rate, so two months come free.

Questions people actually ask

Can TrafficBud replace Semrush?

For some people, yes; for many, no. If you use Semrush primarily for its site audit and for knowing what to work on next, TrafficBud covers that ground. If you use it for backlinks, rank tracking or paid-search research, it cannot — we do not have those features and this page would be dishonest if it implied otherwise.

Do you have a backlink checker?

No. We have no backlink index and no plans to build one; maintaining a link index is a serious infrastructure business in its own right. If backlinks matter to your work, keep a tool that has one.

Is there a free version?

Yes. Three page audits a month, a sitemap audit, a mobile check, a spelling check and a schema generator, with no card required. The free AI-visibility check needs no account at all.

What does TrafficBud do that Semrush does not?

Two things, mainly. It emails a finished, prioritised action plan every month without you logging in, and it runs directly inside AI assistants like Claude Code and Cursor through a Model Context Protocol server.
